Broad stripes, a quieter centre

The archived reference image for this Barcelona-labelled shirt uses broad red and blue vertical bands, with dark sleeves and a folded collar. The stripe widths matter: large blocks establish a slower rhythm than a narrow pinstripe pattern, giving the front a strong identity even before the smaller chest details are considered.

The collar introduces another layer. Its dark outer edge sits over a red underside, creating a frame around the opening rather than a single flat band of colour. The dark sleeves make the torso feel like a distinct panel, while the red lower section visually finishes the striped body.

What to compare

Compare the relatively open central area with the concentration of smaller marks high on the chest. That distribution leaves the stripes in control of the composition. It is a useful example of how empty space can be an active part of shirt design.

The source identifies this reference as a 2003/04 home shirt. That label is retained as a catalogue reference, not as authentication of a particular garment. These notes describe the archived image; the original illustration displayed here is not a reproduction of that shirt.
