Archive labels are tools for finding and comparing records. They work best when the meaning of each label stays narrow.
Role and date
Home, away, third, goalkeeper and training are descriptions carried by source records. When a role has not been independently checked, we retain it as a reference label rather than treating it as conclusive evidence of on-field use.
Design families
A collection can also group long sleeves, layers, matching sets and retrospective references. These groupings help readers compare silhouettes and visual choices across records; they are not sales categories.
Keep the description specific
A record title should help you identify the subject. Original notes can then explain a pattern, a composition or a collector’s perspective. Where a source supplies only a title and a few specifications, the entry remains a reference until more context is available.
