Sharing a collection with context

A good contribution gives the reader more than a photograph and a date.

The most useful collection stories explain the relationship between an object and the person recording it. A short, specific account can be more informative than an unsupported claim of rarity.

Tell us what you know first-hand

Describe how the shirt entered your collection, which details caught your attention and which memories are your own. Separate a personal recollection from a fact you read elsewhere.

Make images traceable

Identify who took the photograph, how you can authorise its use and the credit that should accompany it. A website link alone does not establish permission to republish a picture.

Welcome a correction

Record uncertain dates and missing context honestly. An archive becomes more useful when a later contributor can see what is known, what is inferred and what is still open.
